Gábor Daróczi

Hungarian-born Roma global citizen, a human rights expert and activist with over two decades of experience advancing dignity, equity, and inclusion across Europe. As the founder member of Human Dignity in Action AISBL, his work has consistently focused on empowering marginalized communities —especially Roma people, migrants, youths, and the elderly— through education, research, and advocacy. Gábor has held roles in national institutions, including the Ministry of Education in Hungary, the Council of Europe’s ROMED program, and the European Economic and Social Committee.

He has led and contributed to numerous international programs on community development, energy poverty, political participation, and rights-based approaches, with a strong emphasis on local capacity-building. A frequent speaker and published researcher, Gábor’s work has shaped public discourse and EU-level strategies on Roma issues. Through HDiA, he continues to champion systemic change and meaningful participation by equipping people with the tools, confidence, and support to speak up and shape their own futures with dignity, visibility, and self-determination.

Dávid Kardos

Chairman of the Board of Directors

Brussels-based EU policy expert with a legal background and nearly two decades of experience in European law, justice and home affairs, rule of law, and media policy. As a former advisor and negotiator in the European Parliament, he worked on major legislative files including the Digital Services Act (DSA), the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA), the Regulation on the Transparency and Targeting of Political Advertising, and the Rule of Law Conditionality Mechanism. He also has a long history of working  on the protection of civil society and  of Roma minorities and fundamental rights.

Anna-Maria Markovich

Founder of "Foundation for Human Dignity in Ukraine"

Anna-Maria Markovich is originally from Uzhhorod, Ukraine, and is an ethnic Romani woman dedicated to supporting, empowering, and advocating for her community. She works in the field of psychology, combining professional practice with active civic engagement. Anna-Maria leads training programs for Romani women and works as a child psychologist, supporting Romani children and families facing difficult life circumstances.

She is the founder of the "Foundation for Human Dignity in Ukraine" and serves as the country manager in Ukraine for the charitable organization “Human Dignity in Action.” Anna-Maria holds two higher education degrees — in law and psychology — enabling her to integrate a rights-based approach with professional psychological support.

For the past three years, she has been volunteering with internally displaced Romani people, providing psychological assistance and support to those affected by the war. She is actively engaged in Roma advocacy, promoting the protection of their rights, dignity, and equal opportunities. Her work focuses on strengthening the Romani community and creating conditions that foster development and improve the quality of life for her people.

Mihály Sükösd-Kósa

Treasurer-Secretary of the Board of Directors

Originally from Hungary and currently based in Finland. He is passionate about education and social impact. He has worked with children from disadvantaged backgrounds, including Ukrainian refugee and Roma communities, creating engaging, gamified learning experiences and teaching English in poverty-stricken Hungarian villages. Mihaly also helped launch a digital literacy and coding project in collaboration with NGOs in Hungary and Malta. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Lifelong Learning and Sustainable Development at the University of Eastern Finland, equipping himself with the skills and knowledge to further his mission of making education inclusive, empowering, and transformative.
